Response to Phantom Tollbooth

The Phantom Tollbooth explains that when learning you will make mistakes and in order to better learn you have to be okay with making mistakes. Along with becoming comfortable to making mistakes when earning you have to build off of them and improve. This piece also incorporates that to become a better learner you have to know what to do with what you learn and realize why it matters. The reason of improving on these aspects that help you become a better learner is that so in the future you will be able to better use what you have learned in the past. The Phantom Tollbooth relates to the exspectations of this class because in order to succeed in this class you have be comfortable with making mistakes into to use those mistakes to improve on them and become a better student. The piece also says that you have to take risks when learning and realize what you will learn will help you  in the future, which is similar to what we will have to do throughout the year in this class.

What does this piece of writing say about learning? How do you connect this piece to the expectations of this class?

This passage is all about how when you learn, or do anything in life there are always mistakes to be made and you will always make a few.  However many mistakes you make, you should never feel bad about making mistakes because when you make a mistake you are growing as a person, and also helping other people so they are less likely to make the same mistake as you. The passage also says that sometimes you learn more by being wrong for the right reasons than being right from the wrong reasons, which goes to show that it is always better to be honest.  The Princess of Pure Reason also says that every little thing you do is important, and affects other people in some way, so try and affect people positively rather than negatively.
What does this piece say about learning? How do you connect this piece to the expectations in class?

This  piece says that learning is all about trial and error. In order to actually learn you must not be afraid to be wrong at times. The piece said that "For you often learn more by being wrong for the right reasons  than being right by the wrong reasons." It is also saying that whatever you are learning has a purpose and will some time down the road help you or affect you in some sort of way. I can connect this piece to the expectations in class because in the expectations it says "in order to be an affective student you must reflect upon what you think that you know. In the piece that we read it said "learning what you do with what you learn and learning why you learn things that matter." This quote and the expectation in class are talking about the same thing, meaning that once you know something you have to take it and think about it in order to be an affective student.
What does this piece say about learning? How do you conned this piece to the expectations in class?
this piece is saying that to learn you must know why you are learning otherwise it seems as if there is no purpose to learning it at all. Without a purpose to learning you will not strive to do your best and find your "drum kit". Although succeeding feels great, you will never get there unless you make mistakes and learn from them. Making mistakes isn't bad. If anything its a good thing because you can learn from what you did wrong to succeed. This relates to our expectations in class because we can't be afraid to make mistakes and we have to understand why we are learning something to be able to excel at it. Being comfortable with the people you are in class with is an important part to succeeding in your studies. If we are comfortable in our learning environment and we understand why we are learning the material success will come much easier.

Response to The Phanton Tollbooth

Question- What does this piece of writing say about learning? How do you connect this piece to the expectations of this class? MAKE SURE TO RESPOND TO OTHER CLASSMATES'S POSTS AS WELL.

In the passage from The Phanton Tollbooth, it takes a deep approach on what truly learning is. Throughout the passage it states that learning is not always about what you learn but its what you do with the knowledge you gain. It also implies that making mistakes and taking risks is one of the first steps to learning and its not about how you messed up its more about how you recover from it or what you learn. In response to the paragraph by Julia i agree with everything she stated and to add onto the point of the Team Effort if one person comes to class unprepared its not that the rest of the class is not unprepared its just that because this person is not at the full potential  due to missing materials it takes away from the discussion in where the class uses each other to succeed. In the rest of this passage it states how that it takes time and effort to reach your goals and your full potential. In the end of the passage it states how the man from the story noticed how that the world was so full of things to touch and see that you cannot just go through life regretting things but making the most of them. How this passage connects to the expectations to class is that you not only need to be willing to learn but take the time and effort help yourself and the others around you. And though it may seem that much of the content we are learning is useless it will eventually have an impact on our life.

This piece explains that while learning it is acceptable to make mistakes. Everybody makes mistakes and there is no problem in doing so, as long as you learn from your mistakes and not make the same mistake twice. It also says that you should take risks when it comes to learning and that it might not always be clear what you are learning at the time or why but it will all make sense in the end. This relates to the class expectations because taking risks in class and not being afraid to make mistakes will enhance the class discussion and help other not make the same mistake.

I believe that this excerpt is trying to show us that everything we learn, every activity we do all has a learning purpose. we might not see it at the time, but everything will include a learning lesson. Also, this piece shows how learning is just like any team sport. When one player is not playing his or her best, the entire team suffers from it. But when a team has a prepared, strong player doing his or her best the entire team will succeed. it is the same with learning because if a classmate does not come prepared or ready to learn no one else will be ready either.
