matts quote

When Pearl was at the river she “Pearl still pointed with her forefinger; and a frown gathered on her brow”(192).  When she looked into the river and saw her reflection she had a frown on her face because she saw herself from another viewpoint for the first time.  She could finally see how outsiders view her and how they frown when they see her because she is a product of sin.

  2. While Pearl was at the river, she, “Pointed with her forefinger; and a frown gathered on her brow” (192). As Pearl looked into the river, and saw her own reflection, she had a frown on her face, because for the first time, she saw herself from another view. She could finally see how outsiders view her, and why they frown when they see her, because she is a product of sin.

  3. When Pearl was at the river and saw her reflection she "pointed with her forefinger" (192) because she could finally see what she looked like from an outsiders view. Although, "a frown gathered on her brow" (192), because she got mad at how similar she looked similar to the Puritan children, but still was treated differently since she was viewed as a product of sin.

  4. When Pearl was at the river she “pointed with her forefinger; and a frown gathered on her brow” (192). She saw her reflection in the river, which allowed her to see herself the way other people view her: she is a product of sin.

  5. When Pearl was at the river she “pointed with her forefinger”(192) and when she looked into the river and saw her reflection, “a frown gathered on her brow”(192). She saw herself from another viewpoint for the first time. She then understood why society frowns at her: Pearl is a product of sin.
